Unlike the traditional wholesale distributor that purchases the majority of their inventory to maintain stock levels to sell from, this segment of the industrial distribution market is purchasing or manufacturing most of its material special order to satisfy a set list of materials associated to a sales contract negotiated with their customer.

Contract-based sales are typically fulfilled over a long period of time; often in several phases; with complex billing models.

In addition, Contract Distributors often offer more value add services than just order fulfillment. They will enhance, assemble, install and potentially service the products they sell.

Adding to that, Contract Distributors are continuously issued requests to change the material requirements associated to these contracts, often complicating the purchasing and shipping processes.

Until now, Contract-sales based distributors have had limited options when selecting an ERP application to run their business. Their choice consisted of customizing significantly, a conventional ERP application, or running multiple software application in a disparate environment.
